Ultimate Fighting Championship flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson of Parkland, Washington, United States took to Twitter to show his support for his fellow mixed martial artist Conor McGregor of Dublin, Ireland at “The Money Fight.” The latter is set to fight undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. on August 26, 2017 at T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada, USA.
Minutes before the fight, Johnson tweeted a clip of himself mimicking the infamous move of McGregor with flailing hands. The move was from a training video of the Irish MMA fighter that went viral.
While Johnson has been the UFC flyweight champion since 2012, McGregor is the first UFC fighter to hold two weight divisions at the same time. On December 12, 2015, McGregor won the featherweight championship title after knocking out Jose Aldo at “UFC 194”.
McGregor’s win over Aldo is currently the fastest UFC win. On November 12, 2016, the Irish MMA fighter won the UFC lightweight championship title after defeating Eddie Alvarez at “UFC 205” via technical knockout.
Johnson currently holds a professional MMA record of 26 wins, 2 losses and 1 draw. The only two fighters who defeated him were Brad Pickett and Dominic Cruz.
As an MMA fighter, McGregor holds a record of 21 wins, 3 losses and 0 draw. The only three fighters to defeat him were Artemij Sitenkov, Joseph Duffy and Nate Diaz.
“The Money Fight” marks McGregor’s debut as a professional boxer. On the other hand, Mayweather has fought 49 professional boxing bouts and won all of them.
Mayweather’s most recent boxing opponent before McGregor was Andre Berto. On September 12, 2015, Mayweather defeated Berto via unanimous decision.
