Julia Weissheimer Werlang Gama, 27, represented Brazil at Miss Universe 2020 and competed against 73 other candidates at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Broward County, Florida, United States on May 16, 2021. It is the 69th edition of the international beauty pageant.
One of the candidates was Angèle Kossinda, 28, who made history as the first ever Miss Universe candidate from Cameroon. It was Andrea Meza, 26, of Mexico who won the Miss Universe 2020 crown.
Gama was runner-up to Meza. Janick Maceta, 27, of Peru, Adline Castelino, 22, of India and Kímberly Rodríguez, 24, of the Dominican Republic were the respective second, third and fourth runners-up.
Thuzar Wint Lwin, 22, of Myanmar won the Best National Costume award. She finished in the Top 21.
Born and raised in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, Gama speaks Portuguese, Spanish, English, Mandarin and German. On August 9, 2014, she represented Rio Grande do Sul at Miss Mundo Brasil 2014, competed against 39 other candidates at Costão do Santinho Resort in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil and won the title.
On December 14, 2014, Gama represented Brazil at Miss World 2014 and competed against 120 other candidates at the ExCel London in London, England, United Kingdom. She finished in the Top 11.
On August 20, 2020, Gama was officially appointed as Brazil’s Miss Universe 2020 candidate. Miss Universe Brazil 2020 was cancelled because of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
