Rojer Mauricio Sarmiento-Gutierres, 45, of Honduras was arrested in Chantilly, Fairfax County, Virginia, United States on April 18, 2023 by agents from the field office of the Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Washington, D.C., USA. He was served was a notice of custody determination.
ERO conducts removals of individuals without a lawful basis to remain in the U.S. Daniel Nichols is the ERO Washington, D.C. assistant field office director.
“Rojer Mauricio Sarmiento-Gutierres presented a grave danger to the residents of our Virginia communities every day that he was allowed to walk the streets,” Nichols stated. “ERO Washington, D.C. operated with our local law enforcement partners to get this unlawfully present noncitizen off of our streets and out of our country. ERO will not allow the world’s criminals to use the Washington, D.C. area as a hideout from justice.”
While wanted by Honduran authorities for the charge of homicide, Sarmiento-Gutierres entered the U.S. at an unknown location on an unknown date. He was neither admitted nor paroled by a designated immigration official.
In November 2021, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) issued Sarmiento-Gutierres a notice to appear before a U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) immigration judge. On September 29, 2023, the DOJ immigration judge in Annandale, Fairfax County ordered him removed from the U.S. to Honduras.
On December 27, 2023, deportation officers from ERO Washington, D.C. removed Sarmiento-Gutierres from the U.S. to Honduras. Details about the charges filed against him in his home country have yet to be released.
