James Tyler Melady, 37, of Daytona Beach, Volusia County, Florida, United States is a paramedic. He is a former employee of Flagler County Fire Rescue in Palm Coast, Flagler County, Florida.

Palm Coast is the most populous city in Flagler County. The city, which has two hospitals namely AdventHealth Palm Coast and AdventHealth Palm Coast Parkway, is around 30 miles away from Daytona Beach.

On October 17, 2021, Flagler County Fire Rescue was called to the residence of a woman in Flagler Beach, Flagler County. She was unconscious and intoxicated.

That day, while the woman was being transported to a hospital in Palm Coast, Melady molested her in the patient transport area of a Flagler County Fire Rescue ambulance. He was on-duty and in uniform and she was unconscious when he violated her.

On September 6, 2024, the major case unit of the Daytona Beach Police Department contacted its Flagler County Sheriff’s Office counterpart about an investigation into Melady. Detectives from both agencies reviewed a video of the crime, which clearly depicted his face.

On September 11, 2024, Flagler County Sheriff’s Office master detective Darrell Butler obtained an arrest warrant for Melady. When investigators interviewed Melady, he confessed to molesting the victim and told them he retired from Flagler County Fire Rescue months before his arrest.

Melady was arrested and charged with sexual battery on a helpless person and video voyeurism on a victim 19 years old or older. He was booked into the Volusia County Jail in Daytona Beach under no bond.
