Representing Denmark, Catharina Svensson was 19 years old when she won Miss Earth 2001 at the University of the Philippines Theater in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines. She competed against 41 other candidates including the three other winners namely Miss Earth-Wind 2001 Simone Régis, then 22, of Brazil, Miss Earth-Water 2001 Margarita Kravtsova, then 20, of Kazakhstan and Miss Earth-Fire 2001 Daniela Stucan, then 22, of Argentina.

On October 20, 2002, Svensson went to the Folk Arts Theater in Pasay City, Metro Manila and crowned Džejla Glavović, then 19, of Bosnia and Herzegovina as the next Miss Earth. This made the latter the first Bosnian beauty queen to win a major international beauty pageant.

Winfred Omwakwe

Glavović was accused of failing to fulfill her duties as Miss Earth 2002. She was dethroned on May 28, 2003.

On August 4, 2003, Omwakwe flew from Kenya to the Philippines. She had a brief stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

On August 7, 2003, Omwakwe was formally crowned as the new Miss Earth 2002 at the Carousel Gardens in Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila, Philippines. On November 9, 2003, she crowned her successor Miss Earth 2003 Dania Prince of Honduras at the University of the Philippines Theater in Quezon City, Metro Manila.

Omwakwe earned her master’s degree in public relations from the International University of Monaco in Les Moneghetti, Monaco. On January 1, 2025, she turned 44.

On July 24, 2024, Svensson turned 42. On November 30, 2024, Glavović she turned 42.
