Miss Universe Israel 1952 Ora Vered was born in Yemen. She is the first Malkat HaYofi of Middle Eastern Jewish descent.

Yemen has 21 governorates including Taiz. Rashad Muhammad al-Alimi has been the chairman of the country’s Presidential Leadership Council since April 7, 2022.

Al-Alimi was born in Al-Aloom, Taiz. He turned 71 on January 15, 2025.

Israel was represented in Miss Universe by Malkat HaYofi in 1952 and from 1954 to 2021. The national beauty pageant was dissolved in 2022.

Vered won the third edition of Malkat HaYofi on May 25, 1952. She was a resident of Kerem HaTeimanim, Tel Aviv, Israel.

Kerem HaTeimanim is a neighborhood adjacent to the Carmel Market, an outdoor marketplace in Tel Aviv. In 1906, Yemenite-Jewish immigrants in Israel established the neighborhood on lands that belonged to Aharon Chelouche, Haim Amzaleg and Yosef Moyal.

Ora Jamili was Vered’s original name. She changed her name in 1954.

On June 28, 1952, Vered represented Israel at Miss Universe 1952 at the Long Beach Municipal Auditorium in Long Beach, California, United States. She competed against 29 other candidates including Armi Helena Kuusela of Finland, who won the title.

Kuusela, then 17, was the youngest candidate. Vered was 18 at the time.

Runner-up to Kuusela was Elza Kananionapua Edsman of Hawaii, USA. The respective second, third and fourth runners-up were Ntaizy Mavraki of Greece, Judy Dan (但茱迪) of Hong Kong and Renate Hoy of West Germany.

Olga Llorens Pérez of Mexico, Catherine Higgins of South Africa, Anne Marie Thistler of Sweden, Jacqueleen Virginia Loughery of the U.S. and Gladys Rubio Fajardo of Uruguay finished in the Top 10. Vered was unplaced.

Esther Saavedra of Chile was named the Most Popular Girl in Parade. Myriam Lynn of Belgium was Miss Amity and Valerie Johnson of Montana was Miss Friendship.
