Naazir Lewis and Qaadir Lewis

Twin brothers Naazir Rahim Lewis and Qaadir Malik Lewis of Lawrenceville, Gwinnett County, Georgia, United States have died. They were 19.

Naazir and Qaadir had booked a flight to Boston, Massachusetts, USA for 7:00 a.m. on March 7, 2025. Their family believed they visited friends in Boston, which is around 1,053 miles away from Lawrenceville.

However, Naazir and Qaadir never made their flight. At around 11:05 a.m. on March 8, 2025, a group of hikers called 911 after finding the twins dead at the summit of Bell Mountain in Hiawassee, Towns County, Georgia.

That morning, the Towns County Sheriff’s Office requested the assistance of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Both Naazir and Qaadir had gunshot wounds and their plane tickets were found in their wallets on the mountain, which was around 90 miles away from their residence in Lawrenceville.

One of those who responded to the scene is Scott M. Kerlin, 42, of Hiawassee, a volunteer firefighter in Towns County. He took photos of Naazir and Qaadir’s corpses and shared them publicly.

After the preliminary investigation, the Towns County Sheriff’s Office and the GBI theorized that Naazir and Qaadir took their own lives. The twins’ family rejected that theory.

The twins are Rahim Brawner and Samira Brawner‘s nephews. According to Rahim, the twins were inseparable and were very protective of each other.

Rahim told 11 Alive that the twins did not anything about Hiawassee. He said, “How did they end up out in the mountains? They don’t hike out there. They’ve never been out there.”

A GBI medical examiner has completed the autopsies but additional forensic tests are needed before the release of the official ruling and results.

On March 18, 2025, the GBI arrested Kerlin. He was charged with misdemeanor obstruction.

Before moving to Hiawassee, Kerlin lived in Kissimmee, Florida, USA and in different parts of New Jersey, USA including Beach Haven, Little Egg Harbor Township, Long Beach Township, Manahawkin and Ship Bottom. In September 2024, he turned 42.
