Christina Kiotis Formella, 30, of Downers Grove, DuPage County, Illinois, United States and her husband Michael “Mike” A. Grandberg Formella, 29, are alumni of Concordia University Chicago in River Forest, Cook County, Illinois. Downers Grove is around 22.8 miles away from Chicago, Illinois.
Christina is one of the two daughters of Nicholas J. Kiotis, 70, and Miranda A. Kiotis, 62, of Bloomingdale, Illinois. Christina’s sister Alexandra Nicolette Kiotis, 29, is a member of the fire department of Buffalo Grove, Illinois.

In 2020, Christina joined Downers Grove South High School in Downers Grove as a special education teacher. In 2021, she started coaching the boys’ and girls’ soccer teams of the school.
In December 2023, Christina allegedly started an inappropriate relationship with a male student, then 15. She allegedly sexually assaulted him while they were in a classroom for a tutoring session before school began.
While in an inappropriate relationship, Christina and the boy exchanged text messages. In one exchange, he wrote, “I love you so so much mama.”
“I love you sooooo much baby…,” Christian replied. “Even though this morning was short, it was perfect.”
“I know baby it was perfect baby so perfect”, the boy agreed. In response, Christina confessed, “I love having sex with you.”
“I know baby I love it so much…,” the boy responded. “It feels so good… It’s so passionate. .. It’s so intimate … It’s so perfect.”
In August 2024, Mike and Christina got married. Several months later, the cellphone of the boy she allegedly had a relationship with was broken so his mother bought him a new one.
When the mother signed into the Cloud, she found text messages between her son and Christina. On March 15, 2025, he went to the Downers Grove Police Department with his mother to report the inappropriate sexual contact allegedly committed by Christina.
On March 16, 2025, Downers Grove detectives conducted a traffic stop on Christina and took her into custody. After her arrest, Downers Grove South High School placed her on paid administrative leave.
Christina was released under the condition that she would neither enter the school nor contact any minors. She was charged with criminal sexual assault against a minor and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
On April 14, 2025, Christina will appear in court before Judge Mia S. McPherson, an alumna of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana and the DePaul University College of Law in Chicago. On December 29, 2025, the Concordia University Chicago alumna will turn 31.
Michael Formella
Mike is the son of Randy Formella, 59, and Kathy Grandberg Formella, 59. Randy is the president of E. Formella & Sons, which has been producing Italian specialties since 1909.
Kathy is Nils Carl Granberg and Jean Marie Caterina Granberg‘s daughter. On October 2, 2017, Jean died in Cook County, Illinois at age 90.
Aside from Downers Grove, Mike has lived in other parts of Illinois including Homer Glen. From 2015 to 2018, he played baseball at Concordia University Chicago where he earned his bachelor’s degree in sports management.
Mike is 6’2″ tall. Aside from baseball, he also loves basketball, golf and fishing.
