On March 17, 2025, the principal of the girl’s school contacted police. Police interviewed the girl and her parents.
On March 24, 2025, Vila was arrested. He was charged with sexual solicitation of a child, sexual abuse of a child by a person in a position of trust and 15 other charges.
Vila appeared before a magistrate. He was sent to prison in lieu of $634,000 cash bail.
