Dr. Gregory Scott Roth
Dr. Gregory Scott Roth, 67, is a former medical doctor affiliated with Laredo Medical Center in Laredo, Webb County, Texas, United States. He worked in Bay City, Matagorda County, Texas.
Specializing in emergency medicine, Roth had multiple positions within the healthcare sector. He was the regional health authority and medical director for La Salle County, Texas and a part-time physician at Christus Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.
On November 20, 2022, Roth was arrested after investigators executed a search warrant at his residence. In 2023, he was indicted on 11 counts of child pornography.
Roth was supposed to be sentenced in December 2024 but he failed to appear in court so a bench warrant was issued for his arrest. He fled the U.S. in a rented motorhome and traveled to areas near the southern borders of Mexico, Belize and Guatemala.
The Texas Attorney General’s Office requested the help of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force (LSFTF) for assistance in finding Roth. Led by the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS), the task force coordinated an international operation with the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service and law enforcement partners in Belize.
On March 21, 2025, Roth was arrested in Placencia, Stann Creek District, Belize without incident. On March 22, 2025, he was removed from Belize and brought back to the U.S.
Placencia
Placencia is a small village known for its long main street, a sidewalk with many cabanas, hotels, beach bars and gift shops. English Puritan settled the village in the 17th century.
When Hurricane Iris hit Belize on October 8, 2001, almost 95% of the buildings in Placencia were severely damaged. In the aftermath of the hurricane, real estate value in the village plummeted, which many developers took advantage of.
Placencia Airport, an airport that serves the village, allows private flights. The airport has a paved strip and has no security.
